I'll be the first to admit, after a long day of work oftentimes the last thing I want to do is go downstairs and cook dinner! There are weeks where I get into a routine and every night I'm cooking something new. And then there are weeks where dinner is rushed while we hurry off to an engagement session or client meeting and we're either eating leftovers or a bowl of cereal on the way! Although one of Stephen's favorite foods in cereal, I prefer something a little more substantial! I want to be a good cook, experiment with new recipes, and make mouth watering healthy food for my family...But sometimes I don't have time to do this, or the energy!
I grew up in a family where my parents cooked dinner every night. I appreciate my moms's cooking talents and learned a lot from her in the kitchen. However, my our lifestyle now is slightly different than the lifestyle I grew up in. Oftentimes, we'll work right through dinner. Golden hour, our favorite time to shoot, is almost always in the middle of dinner as well. Because of this, our cooking routine always gets a little thrown off. This isn't a bad thing, we love our jobs and wouldn't trade them for the world, but needed some help in the cooking area! In the last month my motivation for cooking all our meals has grown. It's funny how that works. Some weeks cooking is a joy and a detox from editing, and other weeks I would rather pick up something because of how busy we are. Can you relate?
When we travel, we listen to podcasts and audiobooks non-stop! One advertisement we have heard over and over was for Hello Fresh, a service that ships you all the fresh ingredients for delicious meals, along with step-by-step recipes on how to cook them all within half an hour! Anyone who knows Stephen, knows how much he likes trying new things out and so we gave it a go. We received an awesome $40 gift card to the site so we were able to get three meals for two people for only $30 (more on this below if you want to try it out)! This cost us less than picking up the ingredients ourselves at the store, double win! The box arrived and was packed with pre-prepared fresh ingredients and ice packs. They give you everything you need for cooking amazing, healthy and delicious meals. Everything is shipped directly to your house with the perfect amount and portion sizes for your family. From there you follow their simple instructions and wallah, an amazing meal is served!
This was a fun experiment for us. The food was seriously amazing, and parts of the recipes were things I wouldn't have thought of to make on my own. With the coupon it was awesome to get the service for a deal. I don't Hello Fresh is in our budget for every week, but luckily you can start or stop the service at anytime. I would definitely recommend it to anyone to try out for a week! Since using Hello Fresh, I've tried to replicate some of these recipes and they've turned out great. If you'd like to try it out for a week like we did, try out this code: WEUBCL. Also, if you're interested in checking out other similar services try Blue Apron, SunBasket, or Plated.
I'd love to hear some of your favorite places to find inspiration for cooking! Leave a suggestion in the comments, or on our Facebook page, we'd love to hear!
