Mendocino Area Vacation Suggestions - Destination Photographer

A few weeks ago Stephen and I were in Mendocino for a beautiful wedding on the coast at the Heritage House Resort. The wedding took place overlooking the cliffs and had the most spectacular views. Like most of our personal work, we only brought our medium format film camera. This time in particular, we chose only to shoot on our new Hasselblad so I could get used to using it faster for our newborn sessions. This camera is super fun as it’s all manual, has no batteries or anything. It shoots in a unique 6x6 square format which is fun and creatively challenging.

For weddings, we don’t always make an extended stay when we travel. As much as we like to travel, we also really like being home. For this trip though, we decided to rent a fun AirBNB nearby and and make it a weekend getaway. Many of you might have seen some behind the scenes from our Instagram stories of the cutest Corgi dog named Hunter that came with the property. At 8am every morning, he ran up to our cabin’s sliding door to make sure we were awake and ready for the day. That totally made our day every morning!

Below are the places we highly suggest exploring the next time you’re in Mendocino or Fort Bragg area.

  • Heritage House Resort - If you are wanting to plan a destination wedding on the coast in the Mendocino or Fort Bragg area, we highly suggest looking into this classic Mendocino wedding venue. There’s an amazing indoor outdoor space and guests can stay on the property the whole weekend.

  • The MacCallum House - This spot is right in downtown Mendocino and we ate the most amazing dinner there together the first night. Locals and tourists alike love this spot. We’re excited to be back there next year for one of our 2019 wedding couples who will be hosting their reception there. It’s breathtaking!

  • Downtown Mendocino - There are so many quaint shops and gorgeous views right next to the town.

  • This AirBNB - Linda was such an amazing host and we highly suggest renting her studio in the woods. It’s so peaceful and less than ten minutes from the town of Mendocino. If her studio is booked, she has another room below for rent so click her profile and book one of them so you can meet Hunter the Corgi!

  • Point Cabrillo Lighthouse - A fun trip to see the amazing coast and drive through different parts around Fort Bragg.

  • Sea Pal Cove - This place is a dive…but SUCH good clam chowder and seafood right on the water. Stephen knows every chance I get to eat clam chowder I will and this place was so tasty and authentic!

  • Glass Beach - This beach is well known in the area and worth driving out to.
