Donner Lake Truckee Photographer - Adventure with Friends
A few weekends ago before our big Paris adventure, we snuck away with some really great friends of ours. We had this trip planned for at-least 6 months making sure it worked with everyone’s schedules. We have a tradition of going to the mountains at least once a year. Sometimes we go camping, or plan a fun day hike. This year, we stayed in a friend’s cabin in Alta, California. Alta is about 30 minutes from Grass Valley and about a 45 minute drive from the Tahoe/Truckee Area.
We hiked up Crescent Peak Trail which starts across the street from Boreal. The views were spectacular. After a workout of a hike (6 miles round trip), we grabbed a quick snack and headed to Donner Lake to check out the views. I had told our friends Ben and Abby in advance that if they were up for it, I would love to take some photos of this well-known lookout point at Donner Lake. I have always driven by and wanted to hop out of the car to take photos up there so they agreed to be our models for the quick 30 minute session before meeting up with everyone else for dinner. As many of you know, we’ve been shooting all our personal work along with our newborn photography sessions on medium format film. Film is a bit slower than digital, but it captures colors, shadows and light in a way that digital can not replicate (and we just love it)!
This was such a fun photo session for us. This location captures Ben and Abby perfectly. During the session we found out that this is actually the exact location that Ben proposed to Abby at. They are both amazingly kind friends with a love for the outdoors. They seek adventure together and we love being in community with them!
